It is a new year and a lot will be going on over the next few months at the Foundation especially with Spring Training just around the corner.

The new year also brings some new members to the Foundation Team. All of us at the Foundation are happy to welcome Jillian Buttenham and Jessica Chase, the new curators for the Fergie Jenkins Baseball and Black History Museum. Jillian and Jessica (pictured above) are already hard at work towards making sure the new museum is up and running as soon as possible. They hope to hold a Grand Opening for the Black History section of the museum in early February as a part of Black History Month.

You can follow the Fergie Jenkins Baseball and Black History Museum on their offical Twitter and Facebook pages for more information regarding the museum as well as updates on the February event.

Introducing Cortney Wall, talented artist and friend of the Foundation

The Winning Bid

The Winning Bid

During the 12th Annual Fergie Jenkins Celebrity Golf Classic held at Rockyway Glen Golf Course and Estate in St. Catharines, Ontario the Foundation had the pleasure of welcoming professional artist Cortney Wall to the event. Attendants of the Wine and Cheese event and the Golf outing were lucky enough to see Cortney do a live painting of retired professional boxer George Chuvalo which was auctioned off at our dinner banquet. Everyone was more than impressed by Cortney’s work, especially Meech Kolic (pictured above with Cortney and George Chuvalo) who ended up winning the piece.

Cortney is an extremely gifted artist and she often combines her talent with her love for sports. Her work has been featured everywhere from Yankees Stadium to the Negro League Baseball Museum

Here are just a few examples of Cortney’s work:

It was a pleasure for all of us at the Foundation to meet Cortney and to see her incredible talent. Personally, as a sports fan with a great deal of interest in the world of art it was exciting to see as Cortney combined the two to create such an incredible piece. Cortney definitely added something unique to our event and helped to make this year’s tournament one that will stand out. We all wish her the best and look forward to seeing more of her work in the future!

Be sure to check out Cortney’s new official website at http://www.cortneywall.com which will be up and running on January 10th 2013. Until then you can check out Cortney’s Bio on the Foundation website. You can also follow Cortney on her official Twitter to get more updates from her.

HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY FERGIE!

Fergie celebrated his 70th birthday on Dec.13, 2012

Fergie celebrated his 70th birthday on Dec.13, 2012

70 years ago today, Ferguson Jenkins was born in Chatham, Ontario.

Starting his professional career in his early 20’s, his 19 year career solidified him as one of the best pitchers in the game and one of Canada’s most celebrated athletes.

Fergie was an inspiration on the field and off the field as well, spending his retirement giving back to the sport he loved and the entire community as the Chairman of The Fergie Jenkins Foundation.

All of us at the Foundation would like to wish Fergie a very happy 70th birthday!

Chicago Hall of Famers Sign for Charity in Lombard, Illinois

From December 15 until the 18th the Foundation will be heading to Sports ‘N More, a sports memorabilia store in the Yorktown Center Mall in Lombard, Illinois.

Fergie will be joined by NHL Hall of Famer Pierre Pilote. Both Fergie and Pierre spent most of their professional careers in Illinois playing for the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks respectively.

The appearances offer a great way to get some last-minute gifts for those sports fans and collectors on your list while also helping a good cause. Proceeds from the signings will go towards the JDRF, one of the charities Fergie and the Foundation support.

For more information on the event follow us on Twitter and Facebook or check out our official website at www.fergiejenkins.ca where you can find all of our contact information.
